Monterey: Walk of Remembrance

For years growing up in Monterey, Gerry Low-Sabado didn’t know her family, as one of several Chinese and Chinese American fishermen dating back to the mid-18th century, would go on to create the area’s world-famous fishing industry.

The China Camp Historic District, including the residences and shrimp drying building, was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1979, for it's significance in archeology, architecture, commerce, settlement, and social history.

 
Bay Chronicles - Sailing Expedition

Chinese Whispers: Bay Chronicles is a project by Rene Yung in collaboration with San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. This 2014 sailing expedition retraces the forgotten history of Chinese shrimp fishing around San Francisco Bay, once home to a thriving Chinese shrimp fishery.
